About Servo Saver and Fuel Prices
What are the new fuel pricing rules about?
The Victorian government has introduced a new system designed to give drivers up-to-date info on fuel prices.
We now require all fuel stations in Victoria to report their prices to us within 30 minutes of them changing. We then show these prices on the Service Victoria app and website so you can find the best price near you.
This helps you make more informed decisions about where and when you shop for fuel.
Where does the price information come from and how accurate is it?
Fuel stations report their prices to Service Victoria directly. Then we update that price in the app immediately. Fuel stations need to report their price changes to Service Victoria within 30 minutes.
Do prices include discounts, loyalty points or special offers?
No. The prices shown need to be the standard prices. They can’t include any discounts, loyalty points or special offers.
Do all fuel stations have to register and share their prices?
Yes, all fuel retailers must register all of their Victorian locations with Service Victoria by 31 July 2025.
Using the Servo Saver App
Is there a mobile app for fuel prices in Victoria?
Yes. Fuel prices can be accessed through the official Service Victoria app. You can download it through the Apple App Store or Google Play for Android.
Why can’t I see a service station on the map?
A station might not appear on the map for a few reasons:
- There might be a technical issue.
- The station is temporarily closed or isn’t open for business yet.
- They may not have signed up to report their fuel prices with us yet.
All fuel retailers in Victoria must sign up to report their prices with us by 31 July 2025. If you notice a fuel station is missing, report an issue through the Service Victoria app. We’ll check and update the map once we’ve confirmed the info.
Reporting issues and complaints
I’ve noticed some incorrect info in the app, can I report this?
Yes, you can tell us about issues including incorrect:
- prices
- fuel type availability
- contact details
- station location
- anything else
To report an issue, go to the app, find the station with the issue, select it and then select ‘report issue’.
What if the pump price or sign is different to our app or website?
If you see a different price on the pump or main sign board:
- Check you’re comparing the same fuel type.
- Make sure you have the most recent price and refresh your app. Look for the ‘last updated’ time next to the price in the app or website.
If you’ve confirmed that the fuel price isn’t right, you can report it directly through the app.
Be aware: Fuel stations have up to 30 minutes to report price changes, so the app may not show the update right away. If you see a different price at the pump, the station might still be within that 30-minute window.
How do I make a report?
To report an issue, go to the app, find the station with the issue, select it and then select ‘report issue’.
What information do I need to provide to make a complaint?
When you report an issue through the app, we automatically collect:
- the fuel station’s address
- the fuel price shown in the app
- the time you made the report.
Depending on the issue, we might also ask you to tell us things like the current fuel price at the station, available fuel types, or anything else that seems incorrect. We may also need you to take a photo to show the issue.
We will ask if you’re okay with us contacting you if we need more info. If you say yes, we’ll ask you for your name and contact details.
We only collect the information needed to understand and fix the issue. For more info about how we handle your data you can check out our privacy and security policy.
What happens after I submit a complaint?
Depending on exactly what the issue is, either Service Victoria, or Consumer Affairs Victoria will review it.
We’ll try to fix any technical issues or incorrect contact info as quickly as possible. Working out if a fuel station is doing the wrong thing may take a bit longer.
If Consumer Affairs Victoria sees that a fuel station hasn’t followed the law, they may choose to take enforcement action.
Consumer Affairs Victoria will let you know they've received your complaint. They can't share details about their investigation or the result due to privacy rules.
Who checks fuel retailers follow the rules?
Making sure the system works and has correct contact, fuel type and location info is Service Victoria’s responsibility. Consumer Affairs Victoria are responsible for making sure retailers are honest and update their prices on time. They may also take enforcement action on retailers who do the wrong thing.
