Getting started
To get a digital driver licence through Service Victoria, you’ll need to:
- download the app to your phone through the Apple App Store or Google Play
- open the app and log in or create a Service Victoria account
- go to the wallet in the app. You can get to it from the navigation bar at the bottom of the screen
- tap on the ‘Driver licence’ icon from the add card screen
Adding your licence
Next, we’ll need to grab your driver licence details so we can check them against the registry. Then we can add your digital licence to the app.
Select the licence type that matches what’s on your card, then enter your details.
Most people should be able to add their licence without any issues. You just need to enter the details exactly as they appear on your plastic card. If you do run into problems, there are a few things you can check:
-
Family name: Even if your family name appears as 1 word on your licence, it can be in the registry as 2 words. If you have a family name like ‘McDonald’ and you get an error, try adding a space and enter ‘Mc Donald’.
Or, if you have a family name that’s 2 words like ‘Del Rey’ and you get an error, try ‘DelRey’.
- Street name: Sometimes the format of your street name in the registry won’t match what’s on your licence. If your street name has more than one word, or you could write it that way, you might need to try it with and without spaces. So if it says something like ‘Baw Baw’ in your address on your licence and you get an error, try ‘BawBaw’.
-
Card number: While this is easy to see on most licences, it can be tricky on some. Card numbers start with the letter P or D, followed by 7 numbers. On your licence, look for your card number on the back. Check the top right corner first. It might be very small. If you see something there you can’t read, use a magnifying glass or your phone’s camera to zoom in.
If you don’t see anything in the top right, check underneath your birth year.
If you have a sticker on your card with replacement details, your card number could be here as well.
If you still can’t find it, contact VicRoads.
