How we use your info

We’re Service Victoria, the Victorian Government’s customer service agency.

If you hold a full Victorian driver licence, you can add a digital version to a Service Victoria account. We can then display a digital version of the driver licence in the Service Victoria mobile app.

If you get a digital driver licence through Service Victoria, we’ll collect your identity information and driver licence details. We’ll use this information to verify your details, and to locate your licence record in the Victorian Licensing Registry held by VicRoads.

If your details match, we’ll send them to the Service Victoria mobile app on your phone as a digital driver licence. We only hold your details on our system temporarily. All of your digital licence information lives on your phone in the app, not on our servers.

If you don’t want to use a digital driver licence, you can still use your physical licence. Using a digital driver licence is optional.

From time to time, we’ll check your digital driver licence against the Victorian Licensing Registry to make sure it’s up to date. It’s a key benefit of using a digital licence. The app shows you the date and time of the last update.

The app allows you to show a QR code for others to check details on your licence. You can choose how much information to share through the app. When you show the QR code, the scanning device will be able to see the details that you chose to share. The digital licence also has a barcode that police can use to check your details in their systems.

We also collect anonymous statistical data, such as how you interact with the app. This helps us to improve the design and make the app easier to use. We analyse this data to improve our services. This isn’t connected to any information about you.

From time to time, we may send a message to ask how you like using our services. We'll use this feedback to help make our app better.

We handle your information in accordance with the Service Victoria Act 2018 and the Road Safety Act 1986. The Service Victoria platform has a range of privacy and security safeguards built-in, including encryption. We store all customer data in Australia on secure servers.
